Do You Love to Sing?
As we begin to reconstitute the St. Mark's Choir that was forced to take a hiatus during the worst of Covid times, we are looking for fresh recruits. Some former members are choosing for family and health reasons to step away, so we are eager to welcome new voices. You don’t need to read music, just be willing to come early on Sunday to rehearse and then sing during the service. We will be leading the congregational singing of the hymns and service music, and then the choir will offer an offertory anthem and choral amen. In the interest of protecting each other’s health we will be wearing masks while singing, and will be well spaced in the choir loft. Please see Susan after the service or email her at conductors@aol.com if you would like to give it a try!
The Saint Mark's Choir is comprised of male and female singers who participate in weekly Sunday services, Holy Week masses, and funeral services, when they are available. They rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm, from September through May, and unlike many church choirs, continue to sing for services throughout the summer.
Many of our singers do not read music, but are supported by those who do in a cooperative environment where we enjoy each other's company and friendship as we learn together. We sing four-part anthems drawing from a variety of musical traditions, and regularly introduce new repertoire. A special feature of our choir is the membership of our high school scholarship students, who commit to singing with us during rehearsal and services in exchange for a weekly voice lesson. New members of any age are always welcome!
